OF THE AUGUST 15, 2006, PUBLIC EXIT MEETING TO DISCUSSTHE RESULTS OF THE NRC'S CONFIRMATORY ACTION LETTER (CAL)

FOLLOWUP INSPECTION OF INSPECTION PROCEDURE (IP) 95002 ISSUESACTION ITEM EFFECTIVENESSOn August 15, 2006, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at theQuail Hollow Resort in Painesville, Ohio. The meeting was betw een NRC Region III andFirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) management to discuss the results of the NRC's CAL followup inspection in the IP 95002 Issues Action Item Effectiveness area. Themeeting notice, NRC presentation, and licensee presentation can be found in the AgencywideDocuments Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML061870296, ML062300133, and ML062300124, respectively. A list of principal NRC and licensee meeting participants can befound in the attached Enclosure.The NRC began the meeting with a review of Perry's performance since entering theMultiple/Repetitive Degraded Cornerstone column of the NRC's Action Matrix. This wasfollowed by an overview of the CAL and a brief summary of the results of previous CAL followup inspection activities. The results of the NRC's inspection of the effectiveness of the actionsimplemented by the licensee to address IP 95002 issues were then discussed. As part of this public exit meeting, FENOC responded to the NRC's assessment and discussed the progressof improvement efforts at Perry. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were giventhe opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials and FENOC representatives./RA/Eric R.
