Goodprogressisbeingaccomplished againsttherevisedprojectscheduleandthenextmajormilestone, factoryacceptance testing,istargetedtobecompletebytheendofMarch1988.Asdiscussed inatelephone conference callwiththeNRCStaffonOctober28,1987,difficulties havebeenencountered byEIintheintegration oftheIDTAMI-5000colorgraphicsdatamanagement system.Thesedifficulties hadbeenidentified asofearlyAugust1987butthefullscopeoftheAMI-5000software"bugs"wereunknownatthetime.ThescopeofthesoftwareproblemswasnotapparentuntillateinSeptember 1987.Atthattime,arecommendation wasmadetoFPLbyEItoabandontheAMI-5000equipment andreworktheSPDS/SASupgradewithASEA(TESSELATOR) equipment.

Thisalternative approachwillinvolvetheuseofmore"time-tested"hardware.

Inmid-October thedecisionwasmadebyFPLthatEI'srecommendation was,infact,thebestapproach.

However,aswasdiscussed withtheNRCduringtheOctober28,1987conference call,thisdecisionwillresultinaschedular impactasdiscussed below.FPL'sfunctional specification calledforanultra-high resolution terminal.

Whilethisultra-high resolution equipment, theASEA9000-series, isnotavailable forimmediate integration atSt.Lucie,ahighresolution

terminal, theASEA8310,iscurrently available.

Thisunavailability willresultintheaninteriminstallation (the8310series).Modification tosystemdesigntoacceptthisnewterminalwillresultinhardware/software modifications, beingcompleted byJuly1988.Thisisconsistent withFPL'scommitment initsletterL-87-320, datedSeptember 16,1987,tohavetheCriticalSafetyFunctionMonitor(CSFM)aspectsoftheSPDS/SASimplemented byJune30,1988.ThefinalASEA9000-series ultra-high resolution equipment isprojected tobeinstalled byJune1989.This1989equipment changeout willnotmodifyanyuserinterface ordatainput/output..
