RADIOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEYJanuary-December1994SUMMARYDuring1994,therewerenomeasurable influences fromradioactive effluentreleases.
Routinemeasurements continually aretakenintheareassurrounding theR.E.GinnaNuclearPowerPlanttodetermine ifman-maderadioactivity isreleasedatalevelthatwouldcauseaninfluence totheenvironssurrounding theplant.Thesemeasurements detectednomeasurable activityaboveestablished background levels.Samplesarecollected onanestablished scheduleforregulartestingtodetermine ifmeasurable levelsofactivityexistthatmaybeattributed totheoperation oftheplant.Theinformation obtainedfrommeasurements oftheseenvironmental samplesiscomparedtothecalculated levelsofpotential activityatthesamplinglocations fromnormalplantreleasesasdetermined bymonitorswithintheplanteffluentstreams.Samplesofwater, air, fallout, fish, vegetation, milkanddirectradiation arecollected fromlocations neartheplantthatweredetermined tobeatthepointofhighestconcentration fromreleasesthroughtheplantandcontainment vents.Samplesarealsocollected fromadditional locations atdistances rangingouttoeighteenmiles.Reference samplesforbackground measurements arecollected concurrently fromlocations calculated tohaveradioactivity concentrations lessthan1%ofthosefromtheclosersamplinglocations.
Thesebackground samplesprovidecontinuous background datawhichmakesitpossibletodistinguish betweensignificant radioactivity introduced intotheenvironment fromtheoperation oftheplantandthatintroduced fromothersources.During1994,1471sampleswerecollected for1900analysesforbetaandgammaemittersthroughgrossactivitycountingtechniques andgammaspectroscopy.
Thesetotal931airsamples,298watersamples,21fishsamples,8vegetation samples,57milksamples,2speciallakesamplesand154thermoluminescent dosimeter measurements.
Aspartofarequiredqualitycontrolprogram,9EPAInterlaboratory Comparison Studiessamples(spikedatlevelsexpectedtobeobservedforplantreleases) wereanalyzedandreported.

RADIOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEYJanuary-December1994SUMMARYDuring1994,therewerenomeasurable influences fromradioactive effluentreleases.
Routinemeasurements continually aretakenintheareassurrounding theR.E.GinnaNuclearPowerPlanttodetermine ifman-maderadioactivity isreleasedatalevelthatwouldcauseaninfluence totheenvironssurrounding theplant.Thesemeasurements detectednomeasurable activityaboveestablished background levels.Samplesarecollected onanestablished scheduleforregulartestingtodetermine ifmeasurable levelsofactivityexistthatmaybeattributed totheoperation oftheplant.Theinformation obtainedfrommeasurements oftheseenvironmental samplesiscomparedtothecalculated levelsofpotential activityatthesamplinglocations fromnormalplantreleasesasdetermined bymonitorswithintheplanteffluentstreams.Samplesofwater, air, fallout, fish, vegetation, milkanddirectradiation arecollected fromlocations neartheplantthatweredetermined tobeatthepointofhighestconcentration fromreleasesthroughtheplantandcontainment vents.Samplesarealsocollected fromadditional locations atdistances rangingouttoeighteenmiles.Reference samplesforbackground measurements arecollected concurrently fromlocations calculated tohaveradioactivity concentrations lessthan1%ofthosefromtheclosersamplinglocations.
Thesebackground samplesprovidecontinuous background datawhichmakesitpossibletodistinguish betweensignificant radioactivity introduced intotheenvironment fromtheoperation oftheplantandthatintroduced fromothersources.During1994,1471sampleswerecollected for1900analysesforbetaandgammaemittersthroughgrossactivitycountingtechniques andgammaspectroscopy.
Thesetotal931airsamples,298watersamples,21fishsamples,8vegetation samples,57milksamples,2speciallakesamplesand154thermoluminescent dosimeter measurements.
Aspartofarequiredqualitycontrolprogram,9EPAInterlaboratory Comparison Studiessamples(spikedatlevelsexpectedtobeobservedforplantreleases) wereanalyzedandreported.
Asummaryofthedatacollected indicating theresultsofalldataforindicator andcontrollocations isgiveninTable1-1.
