As a voter in the state of Illinois, I am asking your cooperation in requesting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to do an environmental impact statement regarding_
The Palisades Nuclear Power plant has already begun placing the rods in thes.e storage casks which have not been fully ,tested to assure reasonable safety It seems to me that such action should never be permitted. If we cannot agree to store nuclear waste in deserts or salt mines, why should we store such potentially risky materials in an area where the temperature varies, where the ground is porus (sand), and where the largest cluster of fresh water lakes in the world is found?

I understand the need-to make certain that all nuclear waste storage methods are proven safe and effective prior to their full-scale implementation and consistent use. As you may-know, this topic has gained considerable attention in Congress recently-during discussions on possible alternatives to waste storage, such as actinide recycling.
