CISF - Application Status

• Interim Storage Partners (ISP) in Texas

- June 2018 - ISP requested restart of application review

- August 2018 - Staff resumed the safety and environmental reviews

- ISP Hearing: One contention was admitted in part and another one was resubmitted.

• Holtec International & Eddy Lea Energy Alliance in New Mexico

- February 2018 - Staff accepted application for docketing, began detailed review

- April, May 2018 - Staff held 6 environmental scoping meetings in New Mexico and Maryland

- Holtec Hearing - All hearing petitions were denied and appealed. Boards decision to the Commission. The Commissions decision on the appeals is pending.

- EIS Cooperating Agency Request

• Quality and timeliness of RAI responses greatly influences the review schedule 7

Facilitating Long Term Storage

• NUREG-2214, Managing Aging Processes in Storage (MAPS) Report was issued on August 8, 2019.

• Completed all inspections under Temporary Instruction 2690/011, Review of Aging Management Programs at Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installations -

September 2019

• Regular use of pre-application meetings

• Continuing to see high-quality of applications 8

10 CFR 72.48 Collaborative Effort

• NRC is following the regulatory guide process for endorsement of NEI 12-04.

- NRC completed the technical basis document for change in practice on implementing MOE for 10 CFR 72.48 guidance.

- NRC is assessing options for communicating acceptability of early implementation of NEI 12-04 guidance prior to final endorsement.

• NRC updated internal guidance for inspection on the 10 CFR 72.48 process and implemented training sessions to Headquarters and Region staff.
