Powers - Plant General Manager Big Rock Point Nuclear Plant Consumers Energy Company 10269 US 31 North Charlevoix, MI 49720 Dear Mr. Powers: SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO,50155/97010(DRP) Dear Mr, Powers: On Oct' ber 7.1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your Big Rock Point Nuclear Plant. The enclosed report prosents the results of that inspection. During the 9 week period covered by this inspection, operations, maintenance, and engineering activities were performed satisfactorily. The NRC noted that consistent performance was ! maintained despite the fact that the plant wac scheduled for permanent plant shutdown on < August 29,1997. Plant shutdown activities were conducted in a safe manner and control room decorum and communication were good t Cood overall radiological protection practices were observed with high quality individual performance in contrast to weaker performance by mixed discipline groups. On one occasion, a worker was lying down in a contaminated area until the inspectors alerted radiation protection personnel. No violations were cited based on the results of this inspection.
