These program enhancements improve flexibility and effectiveness of the IR program and will better align the IR program with other agencies, national guidance, implement lessons learned from the IR exercise program, and provide transformative improvements that will reduce inefficiencies while fulfilling the IR programs core mission of event assessment and information sharing. A series of exercises were successfully run over the last few months which demonstrated the revised program is ready for full implementation.

SUBJECT:

IMPLEMENTATION OF INCIDENT RESPONSE PROGRAM CHANGES The Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response, in coordination with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Regional Offices, has been working on improvements to the NRC Incident Response (IR) Program through the Incident Response Reorganization Project.

The program coordinators have finalized preparations and are ready to implement these improvements to the agencys IR program. Enclosed, please find a list of these completed preparations to provide reasonable assurance that program changes are ready for implementation. As the final exercises have been completed and lessons learned have been evaluated, it is our intent to transition to the revised IR program on November 9, 2020.
