MEETING (OCTOBER 29,1997)

Dear Mr. Hagan: i

This refers to the NRC meeting open to public observation conducted on

October 29,1997, at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson, Mississippi. This

meeting discussed SALP Report 50 4i6/97 99 which was issued on October 9,1997.

The meeting provided an opportunity for us to communicate our perspectives for each of

the SALP functional areas and our insights into the factors which the NRC considered

when determining the SALP ratings. Attendees at the meeting are listed in Enclosure 1 to ,

'

this letter. Enclosure 2 is a copy of the NRC's presentation slides.

This letter also acknowledges the input provided by Grand Gulf in response to the SALP

report. Your comments addressed both Grand Gulf's and Entergy's perspectives regarding

performance in the different functional areas. The discussions also addressed planned and

in place strategies for improving performance in Plant Support. We look forward to seeing

the results of the Entergy wide initiatives you are planning in the emergency preparednest,

area,

in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter

will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
