INOPERABILITY OF THE DECAY HEAT REMOVAL TRAINS i
The licensee declared an Unusual Event at 1446 PDT on 7/22/86 due to both trains of the decayheatsystem(DgS)beingdeclaredinoperable. ReactorCoolantSystem(RCS) temperature
, was approximately 84 F with atmospheric pressure.
- , The 'B' train was declared inoperable because the licensee identified a small leak from the casing of the "B" decay heat system pump. The leak was quantified at about 30 drops per minute.
The licensee is investigating the cause and extent of the apparent discontinuity in the "B" DHS pump casing.
The 'A' train was e nsequently also inoperable because the "A" diesel generator was out of serv M for taspection. and repair work. (The "A" DHS had been considered operable although its emergency power was out of service, because the "B" train at DHS had been operable. The licensee classified the event an Unusual Event based on the potential degradation of the safety level of the plant. No release of radioactivity was expected. The state and ,
i' counties' officials were notified as was the NRC er:ergency center. The licensee manned the Technical Support Center (TSC) for approximately one hour.
The information is current as of 0730 PDT, July 23, 1986. (The Unusual Event is being maintained pending repair to the 'B' pump or restoration of the 'A' diesel generator.) i CONTACT: G. Perez L. Miller, Jr.
