Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment Important to Safety (10CFR50.49)

Dear Sir:

The purpose of this letter is to notify you that, in accordance with Vermont Yankee's (VY's) letters of January 31, 1985 and March 4, 1985

[ References (d) and (e)], all remaining equipment determined to require 10CFR50.49 qualification will be qualified prior to restart from this current outage. Enclosure 1 reflects the final disposition of equipment identified in the staff's December 12, 1984 Safety Evaluation of the Vermont Yankee Environmental Qualification Program (VYEQP) [ Reference (c)], as subsequently revised in Reference (d).

In addition to the qualification status of equipment covered under the current scope of the VYEQP, we are also providing you with a status of the VY Regulatory Cuide 1.97 equipment upgrades which fall within the scope of 10CFR50.49. In response to the Staff's August 19, 1985 [ Reference (g)]

request, VY submitted additional information (Reference (h)] responding to the preliminary staff review of VY's NUREG 0737, Supplement No.1, Regulatory Guide 1.97 Program. As stated in that response, VY's understanding based upon the Staff's December 12, 1984 Safety Evaluation of the VYEQP, was that a final decision on the scope of environmental qualification for post-accident g6o28MtBETg2 e
