NRC Oversight of Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR) Management

• March 2019 license amendment - reconciled the licensing design basis of concrete structures impacted by ASR

• November 2020 ASLB final ruling ordered four additional conditions on Seabrooks operating licensee regarding ASR monitoring

• The NRC continues to independently inspect and assess NextEras activities related to managing the effects of ASR using the ROP baseline inspection program

NRC Actions in Response to Covid-19

• Accomplished both onsite and remote oversight activities during the ongoing public health emergency, while taking precautions to minimize exposure to COVID-19

• A select few inspections were conducted fully remotely at Seabrook given the enhanced ability to do remote inspection in combination with targeted on-site inspection aspects

• As conditions have improved, the resident inspectors have increased their on-site presence and generally have transitioned back to their pre-pandemic posture

Seabrook Licensing Actions Due to COVID-19

• Temporary flexibility that maintained continued safe and secure operation, while supporting the national priority of reducing the spread of COVID-19
