REQUEST FOR A HEARING SUBMITTED WITH RESPECT TO THE NOTICE OF RECEIPT OF UPDATE TO APPLICATION FOR FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE AND NOTICE OF OPPORTUNITY FOR HEARING FOR THE WATTS BAR NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 2 The Office of the Secretary has received a Petition to Intervene and Request for Hearing submitted via e-filing from the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Tennessee Environmental Council, We the People, the Sierra Club and the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League.
The petition was filed in response to a notice of the NRC staff which provided an opportunity for hearing with respect to an updated application for a facility operating license, received from the Tennessee Valley Authority, for Watts Bar Unit 2 (docket number 50-391). The notice was published in the Federal Register at 74 Fed. Reg. 20350 (May 1, 2009). In response to an extension request submitted on behalf of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, the Secretary by order dated June 24, 2009, extended the time for filing a petition in this matter to July 14, 2009. The petition was filed on July 13, 2009.
The Petition to intervene and supporting documents are located in ADAMS and on the Electronic Hearing Docket (EHD) under accession number ML091950686. The Petition is being referred to you for appropriate action in accordance with 10 CFR §2.346(i).
