"At approximately 1032 [EST], on 01/30/2018, a Shortnose Sturgeon was removed from the Salem Unit 1 Circulating Water System (CWS) Intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. The Sturgeon was alive upon retrieval and has not been released back to the river as of 1230 [EST]. A report was made by Environmental Licensing to the National Marine Fisheries at 1115 [EST] and NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife at 1117 [EST] concerning the Shortnose Sturgeon.
"Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this event warrants a 4 hr report to the NRC under RAL 11.8.2.a."
The licensee notified the Lower Alloways Creek Township and the NRC Resident Inspector.
Notified the R1DO (Janda) and endangered species group (via email).
