SUMMARY

OF THE MARCH 20, 2007, CATEGORY 1 MEETING WITH EXELON TO DISCUSS CURRENT AND PLANNED LICENSING ACTIVITIES AND PROCESSES On March 20, 2007, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and representatives of Exelon, for Braidwood, Byron, Clinton, Dresden, LaSalle, Limerick, Oyster Creek, Peach Bottom, Quad Cities, and TMI, at the NRC headquarters located at One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss topics of common interest to the reactor licensing programs for Exelon and the NRC staff. A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1.

Exelons presentation handout can be found in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System at Accession No. ML071660102.

The presentation to the NRC staff included an update to the Exelon Nuclear organizational structure which had recently changed. Exelon managers also gave an overview of the multi-plant submittals that are currently planned, including licensing actions affecting control room habitability, inservice inspection requirements, and conforming changes resulting from the revision to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code for Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants.

Exelon managers also discussed various licensing topics, including: options for construction of a new nuclear power plant in Texas, status of the mitigation efforts underway at Exelon sites to address pressurized water reactor sump performance issues, activities associated with prior extended power uprates, NRCs management of task interface agreements and unresolved issues, the NRCs notice of enforcement discretion process, its progress on resolving problems with electronic interface exchange that have affected updated final safety analysis report CONTACT: Christopher Gratton 301-415-1055 cxg1@nrc.gov

Exelon submittals, and various licensing actions that are or were under NRC staff review. The NRC staff also gave Exelon feedback on various licensing subjects, focusing the discussion on the quality of the submittals, and the most efficient and effective ways to implement the licensing program.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the licensee and the NRC staff agreed that the discussions were mutually beneficial, and that another licensing meeting between the NRC staff and its Exelon licensing counterparts should be planned for next year.
