Correction of Information Provided in Previous Submittals Regarding Number of Leaking Control Rod Drive Mechanism (CRDM) Flanges Ladies and Gentlemen:
The purpose of this letter is to correct a minor discrepancy that was identified with previous submittals related to the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station (DBNPS). By letters dated April 18, 2002 (Serial Number 1-1270), dated August 21, 2002 (Serial Number 1-1286), and dated September 23, 2002 (Serial Numberl-1289) the DBNPS submitted to the NRC root cause analysis reports related to the degradation of the DBNPS reactor pressure vessel head discovered during the thirteenth Refueling Outage (1 3RFO). The root cause analysis reports provide a historical timeline of CRDM flange leaks. The timelines of each of the root cause analysis reports textually stated (Serial Number 1-1270 page 27, Serial Number 1-1286 page 21, Serial Number 1-1289 page 31) in 1991 (7RFO) that 21 CRDM flanges were identified as leaking, while Serial Number 1-1270 and Serial Number 1-1289 Figure 28 depicted 22 leaking CRDM flanges discovered in 7RFO. The correct number of leaking CRDM flanges discovered in 1991 (7RFO) is 22. This discrepancy was discovered during the review of documents while preparing DBNPS letter Serial Number 3350, "Response to Demand for Information," dated June 13, 2007.This discrepancy in the original submittals has been documented and addressed through the DBNPS Corrective Action Program, and has been determined to have no safety significance.
