UPDATE - CURRENT NRC ACTIONS AND STATUS OF UNION CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS AT PILGRIM NUCLEAR POWER STATION

As of 8:00 a.m., on July 9, 2012, members of the United Workers Union of America (UWUA) Local 369 at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station and Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. have agreed to a new contract. UWUA Local 369 includes members of the maintenance, radiation protection, chemistry, and operations organizations. Entergy Nuclear and UWUA Local 369 leadership plan to begin integration today, which will then continue throughout the rest of this week.

The Entergy contingency plan remains in effect, with the use of qualified replacement workers to staff union positions throughout the plant while the transition occurs. NRC resident inspectors, supplemented by regional inspectors, continue to provide oversight at the site (NRC Inspection Procedure 92712, "Resumption of Normal Operations After a Strike")  to ensure Pilgrim continues to meet its regulatory requirements.
The information presented herein has been discussed with Entergy and is current as of July 9, 2012, at 8:00 a.m. The NRC has kept the Commonwealth of Massachusetts informed. Region I Public Affairs is prepared to respond to media inquiries.
