SUMMARY

OF THE MAY 26, 2009, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE 2008 PALISADES END-OF-CYCLE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On May 26, 2009, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at Lake Michigan College in South Haven, Michigan. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and Entergy representatives to discuss the NRC's assessment of the safety performance of Palisades Nuclear Plant for the period from January 1, 2008, through December 31, 2008. The meeting notice and NRC presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML091200505 and ML091460654, respectively. A list of principal NRC and licensee meeting participants can be found in the Enclosure.

The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRC's Mission, the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), national ROP results, and the Action Matrix in general. This was followed by a discussion of the NRC's assessment of the performance of Palisades Nuclear Plant in calendar year 2008, which was documented in the March 4, 2009, End-Of-Cycle assessment letter, as ADAMS ML090630130. The NRC also discussed plans for an inspection of the actions taken by the site to address the White finding in the Occupational Radiation Safety cornerstone. As part of this regulatory performance meeting, Entergy responded to the NRC's assessment and provided actions to improve human performance at the site. Cynthia Pederson, Director of the Division of Reactor Projects, provided closing remarks on Palisades' performance. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials.
