REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING COOPER NUCLEAR STATION WELD EXAMINATION RELIEF REQUEST RI-07 (TAC NO. ME7875)
By letter dated January 16, 2012, Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD), the licensee for Cooper Nuclear Station (Cooper) submitted for staff review and approval weld examination relief requests for the Cooper Fourth 10-Year Inservice (ISI) Inspection Interval.
The NRC staff has reviewed the information provided and has determined that additional information is needed in order to complete its review.
- 1. Please describe the materials of construction of RHR-CA-2A and RHR-CB-1A including the base and weld materials.
- 2. Please briefly clarify the difference in technique between the examinations conducted during the previous ISI interval and those conducted during the current interval. In addition, please explain why the coverage percentages differed so much between intervals.
- 3. Please state if alternative beam-angle examinations were attempted. If so, please describe the impact of these alternatives (if any) on coverage.
