We support the safe restart of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. The NRC has been entrusted with ensuring the safety of nuclear facilities and their workers, many of whom are members of the Laborers Local Unions in Southern California, Making sure our members have weii-paying jobs is important, but nothing is more vital than the safety of ithe workers and the general public. I would not allow my members to work in an environnment that is unsafe.I have attended recent NRC meetings and have been closely watching this issue for several months. I am taken back by the way the regulatory process has deteriorated into a politicized, one-sided circus. A vocal minority is being permitted to highjack important proceedings and undermine public engagement.

On matters as important and complex as the restart of a nuclear power plant, the NRC must safeguard the integrity of what historically has been a rigorous regulatory process to ensure public safety. The focus must be on science and technology.

The NRC must ensure all voices are heard and (onduct ffself as an honest broker of all opinions. We urge you to exercise youi oversight au-th0rity to prevent long-term damage to the integrity of the NRC. The future of energy in Southern California is depending upon a rigorous, professional, and balanced regulatory process. Our safety depends on it.Thank you, Armando "Mando" Esparza, Business Manager-28 SUNSI Review Complete Template = ADM -013 E-RIDS= ADM-03 Add= B. Benney (bjb)
