Columbia--Section 7 consultation with NMFS update Paula, Lloyd, and Jeremy, Yesterday I sent Rich Domingue of NMFS an email with the information that we had in house to address his request for additional information for Columbia Generating Station and told him that we would send the rest of the information when we receive it from the licensee.Yesterday after I had gone for the day, he called and left a message. The NMFS is sending, or probably sent yesterday, letters to the Washington State Energy Facilities Evaluation Council and the USEPA indicating that NMFS would like to consult with them or be given consideration regarding endangered species in the NPDES permitting process for the Columbia Generating Station. He said NMFS sent copies of those letters to us. He 116

.said th&st NMFS would like to consult with them as they are the agencies that have authority over characteristics of the intake structure.

He did not indicate what he expected of us, but now seems to understand that we do not have authority over design and operation of intake structures and cooling water systems. He said that, for an unknown period that he believes will be short, NMFS will wait until it hears from them before continuing with the section 7 consultation.
