PALISADES - CLOSURE OF CONFIRMATORY ACTION LETTER, REVISION 1

Dear Mr. Vitale:

On July 17, 2012, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL) EA-12-155 (Agencywide Documents Access & Management System [ADAMS] Accession Number ML12199A409) regarding leakage from the safety injection refueling water tank. On June 20, 2013, Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (ENO) submitted a letter stating three of the five commitments in the CAL (ADAMS ML13171A219) were complete. On June 26, 2013, NRC staff revised EA-12-155 to reflect the closing of these commitments (ADAMS ML13177A280). The two commitments that remained were as follows:

1) ENO will continue inspections of the concrete support structure above the control room, control room hallway, and the concrete support structure ceiling as prescribed in the approved Operations Standing Order. These inspections are to ensure that the temporary modifications installed to prevent impact to safety-related structures, systems and components are performing their intended functions.

2) ENO will correct the adverse condition related to cracking of the concrete support structure around the ceiling of the control room, which could lead to water intrusion, prior to restart from the next refueling outage.

On January 16, 2014, the NRC staff received your letter stating that the remaining two commitments noted above were complete (ADAMS ML14016A211). Based on the information in your letter and the inspections conducted during a biennial Problem Identification and Resolution inspection documented in NRC Inspection Report 05000255/2014007 (ADAMS ML14171A394), the NRC has concluded that the commitments in EA-12-155, Revision 1 are complete. No further response is required and the NRC considers CAL EA-12-155 closed.
