This letter confirms that Ukrainian NRA representatives will v' sit the Calvert Cliffs reactor site on December 8, 1997, through December 12, 1997. Three l

NRA representatives will visit Calvert Cliffs Units 1 and 2, including one Ukrainian interpreter. - Also in the group, will be one representative of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Headquarters office of Suclear Reactor Regulation (NRR), Ms. Eva Eckert Hickey. Ms. Hickey is the NRC's contractor at Pactfic Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).

The NRC is implementing a long term direct assistance program for the nuclear-power reactor re ulator of Russia and Ukraine.

In connection with j

these programs, the NRC s organizing this visit for NRA to study inspection procedures and activities for radiation protection and i

radiation safety inspection and licensing programs through the observation of the radiation protection inspection at Calvert Cliffs in December.

The main purpose of the I week visit is to faciliarize the Ukrainian NRA representatives with United States nuclear >ower industry radiation protection program arocedures and the way tie NRC maintains its oversight

-of these )rograms tirough it: inspection program The visit will strongly enhance tie team's understanding of United States commercial nuchar plant-

-licensee's programs and NRC inspection activities on the radiation

-protection programs.

The NRC-is sensitive to the need not tn interfere with either the
