The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has completed its review of your March 30,1998 response, as supplemented on May 14,1999, to Generic Letter (GL) 97-06, " Degradation of Steam Generator intomals." The primary purpose of GL 97-06 was to obtain information that would enable the staff to verify that the condition of steam generator intamals comply with and conform to the current licensing bases. The staff's review of your responses to the GL did not identify any new concems with the condition of the Crystal River Unit 3 (CR-3) once-through steam generator intamals. The staff also did not identify any concems with the inspection practices employed at CR-3 to detect steam generator intamals degradation. Thus, the staff concludes that your responses to the GL provide reasonable assurance that the condition of the CR-3 steam generator intemals are in compliance with the current licensing bases for CR-3. The detailed technical basis that supports this determination will be published in a NUREG report, which is expected to be published in December 1999. | |||

Dear Mr. Cowan:
This completes staff efforts under TAC No. MA0908. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at (301) 415-1495.
