APPROVAL OF PROPOSED REVISION 14.TO THE MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER STATION'S (OPERATIONAL) QUALITY' ASSURANCE PROGRAM (TAC NO. MA1078)

By letter o sted January 28,1998, Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company transmitted Revisions 12,13, and 14 of the Maine Yankee (Operational) Quality Assurance Program (OOAP). Revisions 12 and 13 to the OQAP were submitted as periodic updates pursuant to 10 CFR 50.71(e)(4). Revision 14.was submitted in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.54(a)(3) as reflecting changes that reduced commitments in the OOAP description previously approved by the NRC. As a result of requests for additional information by the NRC staff, you amended your original submittal via correspondence dated April 13,1998, and May 26,1998.

The enclosed safety evaluation (SE) documents the bases for our conclusion that the reductions in commitments you identified in Revision 14 to the OQAP are consistent with the requirements of Appendix B to 10 CFR Part 50 for a decommissioning facility and are, therefore, acceptable.
