Dear NRC Staff,
As a TVA customer, I am very concerned about TVAs early site permit application for small modular reactors at the Clinch River Site in Tennessee. The NRC should evaluate the costs of SMRs in comparison to other energy choices, such as solar - a source of increasingly cheaper, cleaner, long lasting source of energy production. TVA could promote energy efficiency and conservation through public awareness campaigns.
A comparison of the impacts on our water resources, including water quality and water supply of both surface and groundwater, should also be done by the NRC for SMRs and these other energy choices.
Last, I request that the NRC reject TVAs effort to reduce the emergency planning zone from 10-miles to 2 miles or less.
Should an accident ever occur at the Clinch River Site, the NRC should provide the public with a detailed analysis of how many members of the public could be harmed if these changes in the safety radius are implemented. The safety of our communities should be the NRCs top concern, not the ability for utilities to pursue an experimental technology that is not really needed.
Thank you.
Sincerely, Anthony Cuzzone 5004 Crosby Ln Nashville, TN 37211-5510 acuzzone@gmail.com
