Dear Mr. Pardee:
The Region I Field Office, NRC Office of Investigations (OI), initiated an investigation (Case No.
1-2008-016) on January 7, 2008, to determine if a former Peach Bottom maintenance manager, in willful violation of procedure, placed his dosimetry in a clean and/or low dose rate area while working in a higher dose rate area to make his exposure appear to be less than it actually was.
Based on the evidence developed during the investigation, the NRC did not substantiate that the maintenance manager lowered his radiation exposure by placing his dosimetry in a clean or low dose rate area.
Based on testimony, OI noted that the former Peach Bottom maintenance manager was the subject of this rumor from the late 1970s and early 1980s. However, evidence gathered by OI during the investigation did not uncover any evidence to support the assertion that the former maintenance manager would place his dosimetry in a clean or low dose rate area to avoid recording radiation exposure.
Please note that final NRC investigation documents, such as the OI report described above, may be made available to the public under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) subject to redaction of information appropriate under the FOIA.
