Sequence of Events:

11-26-77 2000 - Mode switch to run from startup 11-27-77 0112 - Commence inerting drywell 0720 - Sample pump on containment atmosphere monitor CAC-AR-1259 found inoperable, L.C.O. 1-77-244 written.

0900 - Oxygen concentration of 3% indicated reached, inerting stopped.

(Actual oxygen concentration was 15% due to the range switch being on the 0-25% scale not the 0-5% scale as believed on CAC-AR-1263.)

1900 - The oxygen scale range switch for CAC-AR-1263 found to be on the 0-25% scale and oxygen concentration was 15%.

1915 - Resumed inerting drywell 2000 - L.C. O. 1-77 -245 vritten due to oxygen concentration >4%, 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> after placing mode swi*ch to run.

11-28-77 0900 - Oxygen concentration less than 3.75% on the 0-5% scale on CAC-AR-1263, L.C.O. 1-77-245 cancelled.

ACTION TO PREVENT RECURRENCE:

This is the first occurrence of this type since drywell inerting was started.

All operators will review this incident and will be reminded to be aware of the status of the range switch position during drywell inerting.

Operating Procedure, OP-24, Containment Atmosphere Control System Operation, has been revised to indicate the proper scale to be used when inerting and deinerting the drywell.
