Dear Mr. Muller:
This letter is in reference to a request for amendment of the operating licenses for the Georgia Power Company Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant Units 1 and 2 (DPR-57 and NPF-5) transmitted to you by letter from James P.
O'Reilly on 28 February, 1986.
This request was brought to my attention by Georgia Power Company through routine notification pursuant to 10 CFR 50.91.
As you are aware, Georgia Power Company requested in the referenced letter the extension of the operating license durations for Plant Hatch Units 1 and 2.
The requested extensions would allow each operating license to remain valid for forty (40) years comencing with the' issuance of the operating licenses for each unit.
This change would extend the operating license for Plant Hatch Unit 1 by 1771 days, and for Unit 2 by 1994 days, increasing the potential elec-trical generation by Plant Hatch by some 56 billion kilowatt-hours.. We have reviewed the attachments to Mr. O'Reilly's letter of 28 February, 1986 and can find no areas of disagreement with Georgia Power Company on this issue.
We agree with Georgia Power Company that extension of the operating licenses will have no significant impact on safety or the environment.
The Georgia Raaf ation Control Act states that the Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division is " designated as the State agency which shall represent the State of Georgia in any proceeding or hearing before the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, or any successor thereto, involving any licensing of a production or utilization facility, or any environmental impact statement relative thereto...."
Pursuant to this
- Act, the Envi ronmental i
Protection Division has no objection to the extension of the operating licenses i
for the Georgia Power Company Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant Units 1 and 2, as j
requested on 28 February,1986 by letter from Mr. James P. O'Reilly.
