Dear Mr. Eaton:

. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed its review of Entergy's analytical approach for ampacity derating determinations at GGNS. The enclosed safety

. evaluation constitutes the staff's review of the GGNS ampacity derating evaluations for Thermo-Lag fire barrier configurations as required in Appendix K of the draft Temporary instruction, " Fire Protection Functional inspection," dated April 6,1998.

On the basis of its review, the staff has concluded that the GGNS ampacity derating analysis results are acceptable, and there are no outstanding ampacity derating issues as identified in Generic Letter 92-08 for GGNS. The enclosed safety evaluation may be used as a reference in future staff reviews or fire protection functional inspections on this matter. You should retain all

' documentation related to the resolution of the ampacity issue for future NRC audits or inspections.
