NRC TMI-2 CLEANUP PROJECT DIRECTORATE WEEKLY STATUS REPORT FOR MAY 5 - 10, 1987 1.

DEFUELIhG Pick and place defueling continued using a variety of tools. One canister was filled and two previcusly filled canisters were transferred to the spent fuel pool.

The leaking hose on the defueling water cleanup system was replaced.

The cause of the leak was a gash in the hose which appears to have been cut by the sharp edge of a defueling tool during transfer to a storage location.

The icwer end fitting jack was installed in the reactor vessel.

Defueling crews were unable to engage it between the lower grid and lower end fittings of part length assemblies due to interferences, primarily fuel pins, in the access areas.

The jack will probably be used this week if the interferences can be removed.

To date, approximately 93,000 lbs of core material have been removed out of a total of approximately 300.000 lbs.

The total weight includes the weight of the core, 207,000 lbs; structural and absorber material, 78,000 lbs; additional mass added by oxidation of core and structural material; and reass added by partial melting of the core support assembly and core former wall.
