This is in response to your February 3, 1987 request for an exemption from Safeguards License Condition 9.2.

We have reviewed your request and have determined that granting an extension until the end of July 1987 will not adversely affect the common defense and security nor the public health and safety and is otherwise in the public interest. In addition, we are req 11 ring the submittal of detailed reports every other month documenting efforts to ship the fuel in a timely manner.

Notwithstanding the possession time period of five months contained in Safeguards License Condition 9.2 for fuel currently on site, the licensee may retain this fuel until July 31, 1987, provided a detailed, bi-monthly report addressing the effort to ship the fuel is submitted to the NRC, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards with a copy to the Region II Regional Administrator. The first report, covering February and March, shall be submitted to the NRC by April 15, 1987.
