This letter provides ar interin report on a potentici 10CFR30.55(u)

item concerning discrepancies discovered in the Eorated Re. fueling Water Storage System (BN) during a Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) Quality Assurance surveillance. This cor.cern was initially reported as a potential 10CFR50.55(e) by Mr. Earl Creel of KG&E to Mr. Jim Gagliardo of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (Region IV) on January 20, 1983.

The BN System had been turned over and accepted by Startup on October 28, 1982. KG&E Quality Assurance later conducted a surveillance on the system and identified some discrepancies in the documentation and hardware. The discrepancies are being evaluated for reportability in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e).

KG&E has initiated actions to correct the identified discrepancies and to determine whether or not similar problems exist on other safety-related systems which have been turned over. Also, actions are being taken to preclude similar discrepancies on systems yet to be turned These actions will be taken regardless of the results of the over.
