Dear Mr. Rusche:
This report is made in response to the Directorate of Licensing letter dated March 5, 1974, which requires the periodic inspection of Bergen-Patterson hydraulic shock suppressors until an improved seal material can be installed. There are six (6) Rex-Hanna model, 12" bore, 511 stroke hydraulic shock suppressors installed on each of our two Surry units. These are supplied by Bergen-Patterson. A 120 day inspection cycle has been incorporated to meet this surveillance requirement.
Inspections of the following suppressors installed on Unit No. 1 were conducted during a recent forced outage. The inspection was completed on March 17, 1976.
Rex-Hanna Model, 12 11* Bore, 5" Stroke - Unit No. 1 Serial Numbers:
59170-1 59170-2 59170-3 59170-4 59170-5 59170-6 The criteria for inspection included:
- a.
Conditions of seals.
- b.
Overall suppressor integrity
- c.
Close inspection for loss of fluid, leakage, and any evidence of distress.
- d. Verification of piston rod position and hydraulic fluid levels.
The inspection confirmed that all suppressors were operable and in good mechanical condition. The condition of the seals and overall suppressor integrity were satisfactory. Hydraulic fluid levels were verified. Fluid was added as required to reservoirs that were below normal operating level.
Slightly weeping fittings were tightened to stop leakage.
Very truly yours, fe-L~
