Chairman Dale Klein presented the Distinguished Service Award before a crowd of NRC colleagues, staff and invited guests. Commisioners Merrifield, Lyons and Jaczko also made presentations, and several Congressional leaders sent their congratulations. | |||

He had previously served as a member of the Foreign Service and as a senior policy analyst and then assistant director in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Earlier in his career, McGaffigan worked on Japanese science and technology at the RAND Corporation, and on strategic arms control issues at the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency.
