Dear iVlr.Miller:

Ref: St.Lucie Unit 2 Docket No.50-389 Unscheduled Steam Generator Inservice Ins ection Results From March 31, 1985 thru April 2, 1985, FPL performed an unscheduled Eddy Current Inservice Inspection of both Steam Generators for St.Lucie Unit 2.This inspection was performed to address both FPL and industry concerns regarding abnormal wear in the bat wing area and was not required per the plant technical specifications.

The inspection program was designed to bound the area of concern and included inspection of 303 tubes in Steam Generator 2A and 300 tubes in Steam Generator 2B.The 2A Steam Generator had 101 imperfections in 86 tubes and 130 tubes were mechanically plugged.38 tubes, at or above 00%imperfection depth, were plugged.08 tubes found to have imperfection depth less than 00%were plugged. In addition, 08 tubes were preventatively plugged because of the bat wing area concern. The 2B Steam Generator had 118 imperfections in 69 tubes and 130 tubes were mechanically plugged.38 tubes, at or above 00%imperfection depth, were plugged.31 tubes found to have imperfection depth less than 00%were plugged. In addition, 61 tubes were preventatively plugged because of the bat wing area concern. The area of concern.will be monitored at the next Eddy Current Examination to determine f ur ther degradation.
