I hope you are doing well. I worked with you a year ago to facilitate a meeting with Chairman Hanson and Helion

~. He lion is a nuclear fusion company that plans to put clean, affordable fusion energy on the grid in the near term. We had a 30-minute virtual meeting with the Chairman last year that went very well, and it was suggested that we check in again as things progressed.

Helion has recently completed a new fundraise, and publicly announced its goal to demonstrate net electricity production from fusion energy in 2024. This seems to be a good time for an update, and want to ask if the Chairman would appreciate an opportunity to engage with us on our recent milestones and updated goals-including how they may affect NRC licensing. We are also very actively engaged with the NRC staff on development of a regulatory framework for fusion (who have been great to work with), and it would be helpful to reflect with the Chairman on that as well.

If amenable, would the Chairman have 30 minutes free sometime in January? We can work around his schedule.

Chris asked me to reach out to you to see if we can coordinate a time in his schedule to meet when I am in town in early March. I'm planning to be in DC during the week of March 7 - 11, 2022. The RIC is going on that week and I think we will both be participating in those virtual sessions but thought that we might be able to find a time to coordinate an in-person meeting sometime during that week.

Could you let me know if there is anyth ing that might work out in Chris's schedule? I have a oresentation at the RIC on Thursday morning (3/10), and an appointment on Friday afternoon 1/11). I w ill do my best to coordinate arou n d any other times that you may have to offer.

ring a couple of recent public meetings, NRC staff has alluded to completion of the evaluation process of extravasations and medical event reporting expected this spring, and a SECY package going to the Commission soon. We've really appreciated the opportunity to submit written comment to you and Chairman Hanson throughout this process, and we anticipate that continuing. But I'd also like to request a meeting (in-person or virtual) on behalf of Ron Lattanze and Lucerne Dynamics, so tha t there can be a give-and-take like the Commissioners have with ACMUI and others. I think it would be valuab le in correcting some misperceptions that persist, and clarifying some technical details. We can be available anytime to do this.

I'm writing to invite you to participate in the first annual Fusion Industry Association (FIA) policy conference, taking place on Wednesday, March 30 at 1601 Pennsylvania Ave, NW.

The FIA is the unified voice of the fusion industry, with 27 member companies working to transform the American energy system with commercially viable fusion power. As you know, fusion can be a key part of the clean energy future, if we can accelerate the timeline for commercialization. This conference will be an opportunity for our membership and the broader fusion community to hear from government leaders and policymakers like yourself about how the government will impact the fusion future.

The audience will include the leaders of both the privately funded fusion companies and national lab fusion scientists. The NRC is the key agency in ensuring public health and safety, as we work towards fusion power plants. The FIA and our members are currently engaged in a public process with the NRC about how fusion energy power plants will be regulated.

We hope that you would be available to participate in an informal discussion about NRC priorities with former Commissioner Jeffrey Merrifield.
