Dear Mr. Sullivan:

i This letter transmits the findings of the senior reactor operator (SRO) and reactor operator

j (RO) license examinations, conducted on October 16,1998, and during the week of l

j October 19,1998 at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. The examinations addressed areas

i important to public health and safety and were developed and administered under to

[ guidelines of the Operator Licensing Examination Standards for Power Reactors (NUREG-

1021, Interim Revision 8). All four SRO and five RO applicants passed all portions of the '

. examination.

'

During exam development, your staff reported a potential exam compromise. Upon further

3 review by your staff and the NRC staff, we concurred with your staff that there was l

l- reasonable assurance no actual compromise occurred. We found the actions taken by your  !

4 staff to prevent future occurrences of potential exam compromise to be objective, thorough -

!

and timely.  !

! In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter 1
