SUBJECT:

NEI COMMENTS ON THE USE OF DOORS ON SAFETY-RELATED ELECTRICAL CABINETS

Dear Mr. Montgomery:

By letter dated July 28, 2015 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML15211A296; Package ML15211A295), the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) submitted a position paper to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff documenting the industrys view on the use of doors on safety-related electrical cabinets and the seismic qualification of safety-related electrical cabinets. The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the NRC staff considered the information delineated in NEIs position paper and determined that clarification or revision to Regulatory Oversight Process (ROP) governance documentation, e.g., Inspection Manual Chapter 0326, Operability Determinations and Functionality Assessments for Conditions Adverse to Quality or Safety, is not necessary at this time.

NRC staff will be prepared to discuss NEIs position paper at the September 16, 2015, ROP public meeting. If you have any further questions regarding this issue, please contact Gabriel Levasseur at (301) 415-1487 or Stephen Campbell at (301) 415-3353.

Sincerely,

/RA/
