Carolina Power&Light Company (CPAL)is in the process of establishing and documenting the radiological characteristics of the Shearon, Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP)environs prior to fuel loading.As part of the progtam, and in order to identify any radiological anomalies of the environment prior to the operation of the'lant, CP&L wishes to incorporate an aerial gamma spectral mapping.In a telephone conversation with Mr.Eric Weinstein of your staff on February 1 1, 1983, we learned that SHNPP is not presently included in the 1983 schedule for the Aerial Radiological Monitoring System (ARMS)aerial survey that your office conducts on a periodic basis on nuclear power plants, but that it might be possible to include it in the 1984 schedule.Therefore, we hereby request that the ARMS aerial survey of SHNPP be included in your 1984 schedule, and that the results of the survey be shared with our technical staff as early as possible.Please advise us as to your disposition of this request.Should you have any questions regarding this request, please contact Mr.Pedro Salas (phone: 919-836-8015).
