Summary of discussion: Hatch's Low frequency evaluation plans Hello all,
This email summarizes a discussion between NRC staff and Southern Nuclear representatives regarding the status of Hatch's Low frequency evaluation associated with NTTF 2.1 "Seismic".
Consistent with documentation requirements contained in MD 3.53, "Records and Document Management Program," this email documents the staff's communication by telephone with Southern Nuclear Company (SNC) representatives regarding the status of Hatch's low frequency evaluation.
This discussion supported a forthcoming, formal submittal documenting Hatch's evaluation. The following items were discussed during the telephone discussion with the licensee:
- 1. SNC representatives provided an overview of the status of Plant Hatch Units 1 and 2 low frequency (LF) investigations/studies and evaluations
- 2. SNC stated that it relied on insights and analyses from previous and ongoing seismic investigations to screen out low frequency vulnerabilities. SNC stated that it followed the Screening, Prioritization and Implementation Details (SPID) guidance when evaluating low frequency sensitive structures, systems and components.
- 3. Hatch's low frequency evaluation is well underway and a formal submittal is expected by September 2016.
- 4. The staff will communicate with SNC prior to the submittal to ensure that sufficient information is provided to support the staff's review.
