WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY C REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RE: AMENDMENT REQUEST FOR INCREASE IN POSSESSION LIMITS FOR REACTOR CONVERSION (TAC NO. MD6570)

Dear Dr. Wall:

We are continuing our review of your amendment request for Amended Facility Operating License No. R-76 for the Washington State University Modified TRIGA Reactor which you submitted on August 15, 2007. During our review of your amendment request, questions have arisen for which we require additional information and clarification. Please provide responses to the enclosed request for additional information within 15 days of the date of this letter. In accordance with 10 CFR 50.30(b), your response must be executed in a signed original under oath or affirmation. Following receipt of the additional information, we w ill continue our evaluation of your amendment request.

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY MODIFIED TRIGA REACTOR DOCKET NO. 50-27

The purpose of the following question is to determine the status of the conversion application in relation to 10 CFR 2.390.

1. Page I of your Safety Analysis titled "Issue/Release Summary" states that the Safety Analysis is GA Proprietary Information. If the report is proprietary, please have the owner of the information follow the regulations in 10 CFR 2.390 to request withholding the document as proprietary. If the Safety Analysis is not proprietary, please submit documentation to that effect.

The purpose of the following question is to determine possession limits under 10 CFR Part 70.

2. Please confirm t he additional amount of low-enriched uranium-235 that will be needed for the conversion of the reactor in addition to the 10.0 kilograms you are currently authorized to possess.
