Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) is advising the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of its expectations to apply for renewal of the operating licenses for the Alvin W. Vogtle Nuclear Plant Units I and 2 in June 2007.
SNC recognizes that the application for a renewed license for Vogtle Electric Generating Plant Unit 2 is earlier than 20 years before the expiration of the current operating license.
SNC intends to file for an exemption prior to submittal.
