Transmittal of Safety Evaluation for Electric Power Research Institute Report 3002028939, Risk-informed High-Energy Line Break Evaluation Requirements for Proprietary Review (EPID L-2024-NTR-0006)

Michael Ruszkowski, Plant Support Director Electric Power Research Institute 1300 West W.T. Harris Blvd Charlotte, NC 28262-8550

Dear Michael Ruszkowski:

By letter dated July 23, 2024 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)

Accession No. ML24205A146), Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) submitted EPRI Technical Report 3002028939, Risk-Informed High-Energy Line Break Evaluation Requirements, to the U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for review and approval. EPRI Report 3002028939 provides an alternative means for assessing and confirming that plant structures, systems, and components that are important to safety are adequate to accommodate the effects of postulated accidents, including appropriate protection against the dynamic and environmental effects of postulated pipe ruptures.

By email dated September 10, 2024 (ADAMS Accession No. ML24214A023), NRC staff accepted EPRI Report 3002028939 for review.

Based on review of the information submitted in EPRI Report 3002028939, audit discussion, and review of responses to requests for additional information, the NRC staff finds the EPRI Report 3002028939 is acceptable for referencing subject to the limitations specified in the EPRI Report 3002028939, and in the NRC safety evaluation (SE). The NRC staff evaluation is provided in this SE.

A copy of the SE for proprietary review has been placed in the box.com folder. Ashley Lindeman and Richard Fougerousse have been given access to the folder. The SE for proprietary review is being provided for a proprietary information review. If EPRI provides comments on other areas, the NRC staff will exercise its discretion on whether to address those comments.

Pursuant to Section 2.390 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), we have determined that the draft SE may contain proprietary information. If you believe that any information in the draft SE is proprietary, please identify such information line-by-line and define the basis
