November 20, 2024 Honorable Christopher T. Hanson Chair, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Office of Administration, Mail Stop: TWFN-7-A60M U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 ATTN: DCPP License Extension Chair Hanson and Commissioners, My name is Bob Nelson, I am the County Supervisor for Santa Barbara Countys Fourth District. The purpose of this letter is to demonstrate my support for the extension of current operations at the Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) and the assurance of clean, reliable electric power for all Californians.

Whether it is employment opportunities, clean energy, or safeguards for other critical industries within my District, there are numerous reasons for my support for a facility that has operated safely and reliably for nearly 40 years.

Not only in my District, but also throughout a majority of the tri-county region, residents are heavily dependent on employment within the Ag, oil, manufacturing and aerospace sectors. It is a working-class community that depends on working-class opportunities.

As the largest employer in San Luis Obispo County, DCPP has not only fulfilled this role as an employer, but also rewarded their employees and third-party vendors with the chance for upward mobility. This business model is critical for the attraction and retention of young, talented professionals and the long-term success of the Central Coast.

This region is an amazing place. It is also a dichotomy between those who enjoy living here when they choose and those who need to work and live here to support their families. DCPP has provided and should continue to provide an opportunity for the latter, while also serving all.

Bottom line: if the state of California is to meet its specified goals when it comes to the reduction of GHG emissions and clean energy production; nuclear will have to be a major part of the solution.

Sincerely, Bob Nelson Fourth District Supervisor Santa Barbara County 805.287.0408 Bob Nelson County Supervisor Fourth District Aaron Hanke District Chief Of Staff BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Fourth District Office 511 E.
