50-483; COLUMBIA GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-397; COOPER NUCLEAR STATION DOCKET NO. 50-298; DIABLO CANYON UNITS 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-275 AND 50-323; GRAND GULF NCULEAR STATION DCOKET NO. 50-416; PALO VERDE GENERATING STATION UNITS 1, 2 AND 3 DOCKET NOS. 50-528, 50-529, AND 50-530; RIVER BEND STATION DOCKET NO. 50-458; SOUTH TEXAS PROJECT UNITS 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-498 AND 50-499; WATERFORD UNIT 3 DOCKET NO. 50-382; WOLF CREEK GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-482 On May 17, 2022, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) virtually conducted a public Information Meeting with a Question and Answer Session. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the results of the NRCs 2021 annual assessments for the Region IV nuclear plants and to provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions. In response to the COVID-19 coronavirus public health emergency, the meeting was held remotely using Microsoft Teams.

During the meeting, the NRC staff discussed Region IV plants assessment for 2021, which included a quick overview of the Reactor Oversight Process and presentations from NRC staff at multiple levels to provide a 360 degree view of how those assessments are conducted. The presentation also included a video on how the NRC continued to do their job during the Covid-19 pandemic, a discussion on the NRCs 2021 emergency response activities, and information on how to reach the NRC through multiple social media platforms. NRC staff explained that Region IV plants operated safely in 2021, and all Reactor Oversight Process cornerstone objectives were met. The NRC determined that the performance for 11 of 12 plants was within the Licensee Response Column of the NRC's Action Matrix, because all inspection findings had very low (i.e., Green) safety significance, and all performance indicators showed that performance was within the nominal, expected range (i.e., Green). NRC staff also explained that Callaway Plant was in the Regulatory Response Column of the NRCs Action Matrix in 2021 due to a Performance Indicator for Unplanned Scrams per 7000 Critical Hours that turned White during the fourth quarter of calendar year 2020. 2 supplemental inspection procedure 95001, Callaway transitioned to the Licensee Response Column of the NRCs Action Matrix during the second quarter of calendar year 2022.
The meeting was conducted from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. (CDT), with an NRC staff member facilitating the meeting. There were approximately 90 individuals in attendance, 31 of which were NRC staff members available for answering questions.
