APPLICANTS' REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF TIME i

In its Memorandum and Order (Scheduling of a Special Pre-hearing Conference), dated August 4, 1983, the Board directed that petitioners should file amendments and/or supplements to their petitions so that they are received by the parties and the Board by September 9, 1983.

The Board further directed that Applicants shall have ten days from the receipt of the proposed contentions in which to file their responses and the Staff fifteen days.

Applicants hereby request that the Board modify the schedule described above to allow Applicants an additional five days in which to submit their responses.

This extension would mean that Applicants' responses would be due at the same time as the Staff's.

l Applicants are requesting this extension because the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur both fall within the 10 day period during which Applicants' responses must be prepared.

This would significantly reduce the amount of time which Appli-cants would have in which to develop'their responses.

All petitioners (except for Mr. Lochstet, whom Applicants have been unable to contact) and the NRC Staff have stated that they would not object to the requested extension.

For the reasons set forth above, Applicants respectfully request that the Licensing Bcard allow Applicants fifteen days from receipt of amendments and/or supplements in which to respond.

Respectfully submitted, SHAW, PITTMAN, POTTS & TROWBRIDGE
