Examination of Containment Liner Penetration Welds

Dear Sir:

The following information is provided in accordance with your request in IE Bulletin No. 80-08.

1)

There are nineteen (19) penetrations per unit with a flued head design.

2) a.

Applicable Code is the 1974 Code, Winter 1975 Addenda.

b.

The flued head penetrations have not yet been erected. The welds joining the flued head to the sleeve, have been classi-fled as ASME Code Class 2 and therefore, are to receive radio-graphic examinations.

c.

All the flued head penetrations are to be butt welded to the sleeves using consumable inserts.

No backing rings are to be used.

The pipe material and sizes are as follows:

The erection of the flued heads has not yet taken place. Therefore, no construction NDE's have been performed.

Radiography will be performed as required by Specification 9763-006-248-51 " Assembly and Erection of Piping and Mechanical Equipment."
