19406 License No. EPR-35 Docket No. 50-293 Response to IE Bulletin #79-24

Dear Sir:

In a letter dated September 27, 1979, you transmitted IE Bulletin #79-24.

Boston Edison Company was requested to review conditions at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station to assure that safety-related-process, instruments, and sampling lines do not freeze during extremely cold weather.

Response

A review of this problem was conducted at Pilgrim Station and identified the stack sample line as the only line to have ever experienced freezing. Heat tracing was added to the line and will be inspected pr'.or to the onset of winter.

All other safety systems at Pilgrim Station are located within the Process Buildings and thereby protected by the station heating system.

We trust this information is responsive to your concerns, however, should you have any further questions on this subject please contact us at your convenience.

Very truly yours,

?
