John,

The NRC staff is preparing to issue the following license amendment regarding Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station (Pilgrim). A brief description of the license amendment request (LAR) is provided below. Additional information can be found in the licensees application which is referenced below.

Please let me know if you have any comments or questions regarding this licensing action by September 21, 2016, if possible. We project issuance by middle October, 2016.

PILGRIM NUCLEAR POWER STATION - PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE EMERGENCY PLAN TO REVISE TRAINING FOR THE ON-SHIFT CHEMISTRY TECHNICIAN Application date: January 14, 2016 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16021A459)

Brief

Description:

This amendment consists of changes to the Pilgrim Emergency Plan to revise the training for the on-shift Chemistry Technician pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 50.54(q)(4).

This amendment would reduce the level of the Emergency Response Organization staff training for the on-shift Chemistry Technician to support on-shift Radiation Protection Technician functions at the onset of a radiological event. The amendment would also revise paragraph 3.B of the renewed facility operating license. The NRC issued a proposed finding that the amendment involves no significant hazards consideration in the Federal Register on April 12,

2016 (81 FR 21597) (Link). The NRC has not received any public comment or requests for hearing on this LAR.

Thanks, Booma Booma Venkataraman, P.E.
