UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 December 30, 2014 Ms. Ellen P. Anderson Senior Project Manager, Radiation Safety
& Environmental Protection Nuclear Energy Institute 1201 F Street, NW, Suite 1100 Washington, DC 20004
Dear Ms. Anderson:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is pleased to invite you or your representative to attend the NRC's 27th Annual Regulatory Information Conference (RIC).
The conference will be held March 10 -12, 2015, at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in North Bethesda, Maryland.
The NRC's Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) requests your participation, or that of your designee, as a panelist in a technical session entitled, "Operational Radiation Protection and Environmental Monitoring at Nuclear Power Plants," which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 10, from 3:30 - 5:00p.m. This session will present recent nuclear power industry experience with direct monitoring methods for determining the effective dose equivalent from external exposures. Speakers representing a wide spectrum of national and international stakeholders will present diverse perspectives on the topic of direct radiation monitoring. NRR is planning for this session to include speakers from Japans Nuclear Regulation Authority, addressing radiation monitoring challenges during the Fukushima disaster; the State of Massachusetts, and the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, addressing direct radiation monitoring around operating nuclear power plants, and our Office of Research addressing recent changes in the NRC guidance for occupational radiation monitoring. NRR would appreciate your perspectives on the recent ISOE recommendations concerning radiation protection practices during sever accidents at nuclear power plants.
NRR is requesting that each panelist prepare a 15 minute presentation, after which panelists will engage in a question and answer period with the audience.
The NRC hopes that you, or your designee, are able to accept this invitation to participate as a panel speaker for the aforementioned technical session. Please inform Mr. Roger Pedersen
E. Anderson of your intention to accept or decline this speaking invitation by Friday, January 10th via email at Roger.Pedersen@nrc.gov. Confirmed panel speakers must then complete and return to Mr. Pedersen the three enclosed forms.
Sincerely,
/RA/
Joseph G. Giitter, Director Division of Risk Assessment Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
